Breaking News! CBCN Elect New Leaders

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has concluded the election of new officers to guide the work of the Conference. The elections were conducted today, the 24th of February 2026 during its First Plenary Assembly at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Abuja.

Following the deliberations of the bishops, the Conference elected the following principal officers:

Most Rev. Matthew Man’oso Ndagoso, Archbishop of Kaduna — President

Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of Lagos — Vice President

Most Rev. Peter Odetoyinbo, Bishop of Abeokuta — Secretary

Most Rev. Peter Chukwu, Bishop of Abakaliki — Assistant Secretary

Additional bishops were also chosen to coordinate the various directorates, departments, and agencies operating under the Catholic Secretariat and the Conference.

The official presentation of the newly elected officers will take place at the closing session of the plenary on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
