Udenu Local Government Area took centre stage as a massive crowd gathered across Enugu North Senatorial District (Nsukka Zone) to unanimously endorse the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for a second term in office.
As early as 8:40 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026, major roads leading into Nsukka town witnessed unprecedented vehicular and human traffic, as thousands of enthusiastic supporters trooped to the Nsukka Township Stadium, venue of the historic rally. The event was convened by stakeholders of Enugu North Senatorial District to formally adopt Governor Mbah as their sole governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
The turnout was nothing short of overwhelming, with a remarkable presence of political heavyweights and grassroots mobilizers. They all arrived early in a strong show of unity and purpose.
Leading from the front was the Udenu Local Government Chairman, Aka Eze Aka, who mobilized over 4,000 supporters from Udenu. He also played a central role at the event, serving as the Master of Ceremony and Rapporteur with exceptional poise.
The Udenu contingent added colour and vibrancy to the rally. Youth groups displayed bold placards with inscriptions such as “2027: Peter or Nothing,” while women groups, adorned in coordinated uniforms, sang solidarity songs throughout their journey to the venue. Market traders, party faithfuls, and the general public from Udenu turned out in impressive numbers, reinforcing the LGA’s strong political presence.

At about 9:00 AM, the Chairman briefly departed for a live one-hour phone-in programme at Radio Nigeria Voice FM 96.7 Nsukka, where he appeared alongside his Igbo Etiti counterpart, Erik Odo. During the session, he highlighted the achievements of Governor Mbah’s administration and emphasized the significant developmental gains recorded across Enugu North Senatorial District.
He promptly returned to the stadium to continue moderating the programme as anticipation heightened for the Governor’s arrival. Notably, all six Local Government Areas in the zone engaged in friendly rivalry, each striving to outdo the other in demonstrating loyalty and support.
At exactly 3:07 PM, Governor Mbah arrived to a thunderous ovation from the electrified crowd. A series of endorsement speeches followed, delivered by prominent past and present political leaders. Among them was the former Governor of Enugu State and current Nigerian Ambassador to Greece, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who formally endorsed Governor Mbah.

In a symbolic gesture, the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai, presented a cheque of ₦102 million on behalf of the zone to the Governor. Meanwhile, Chukwuka Utazi oversaw the formal endorsement proceedings for both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Mbah.
Legislative affirmations followed, with Dennis Agbo reading the endorsement for President Tinubu on behalf of National Assembly members from the zone, while Ezenta Ezeani delivered the endorsement for Governor Mbah on behalf of the State Assembly.
The event reached its climax as the crowd resoundingly affirmed the motion to adopt Governor Mbah as the sole governorship candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
Udenu’s role extended beyond attendance. The LGA was instrumental in media and publicity efforts leading up to the rally.
