The Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze Aka, graced the finals of the famous HRH Igwe Patrick Eze (Waziri), Igwe Umuegali Amalla football tournament over the weekend. The match was between teams from Inyi Community, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area and the Hausa Community in Udenu Local Government Area.
The Chairman, who was represented by Onyekachi C Ugwu, former Chairman Transition Committee Udenu Local Government Council, was accompanied by the traditional ruler to perform the kick-off to officially commence the highly anticipated final match. In his address, the Executive Chairman commended the traditional ruler for his continuous efforts in engendering unity and peaceful coexistence among people of diverse cultures and backgrounds within the local government area.
In his speech, the Chairman stated that “Igwe Eze is a great leader who has always been striving to bring people together and foster harmony in Udenu, using his many businesses to create employment to our teeming youths.
He went on to say that “The football tournament is another evidence of his commitment to youth development and providing platforms for our young ones to channel their energy positively.”
The Chairman further encouraged such sporting events, noting that they serve as effective tools to combat idleness, exuberance, and delinquency among the youths in the communities involved and generally” holding further that “Sports have the power to unite people and keep our youths engaged in productive activities”.
Stating his happiness he said, I’m delighted to see the passion and enthusiasm displayed by the players and spectators today as it all goes to prove that if productively engaged, our youths will do better”.
The football match was described as a thrilling encounter, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination to emerge victorious. In the end, the match ended in favour of the Hausa Community led by Alhaji Zakari Ibrahim more fondly called Babangida winning with 2 goals against nil. The tournament further affirms the unity and sportsmanship exhibited by the diverse communities in our area
The event was attended by various community leaders, dignitaries, and sports enthusiasts, including the former Leader Udenu Legislative Council, Hon Chika Aroh who all commended Igwe Waziri’s efforts in fostering unity and promoting youth development through the annual football tournament.
