In a solemn expression of solidarity and professional kinship, the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology (FCMLT), Jos, has paid a condolence visit to the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) in Abuja, following the recent passing of the Council’s Registrar/CEO, Prof. Tosan Erhabor.
Leading the delegation from FCMLT was the College Provost, Professor S. Etukudoh, accompanied by Senior Members of the institution. The team was received at the Council’s headquarters by the Acting Registrar of the Council, Dr. Donald Ofili, alongside other Members of the Council’s Management Staff.

During the visit, Prof. Etukudoh signed the condolence register opened in honour of the Late Prof. Erhabor, describing his death as a profound loss to the profession and the nation’s healthcare system. He extolled the Late Registrar’s contributions to the development of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria, particularly his role in strengthening regulatory frameworks, fostering academic excellence, and promoting professional ethics.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss. Prof. Erhabor was not only a consummate professional but a visionary leader whose impact will continue to resonate within the Medical Laboratory Community,” Prof. Etukudoh said. “We pledge our support to the Council during this difficult time and assure you of our continued collaboration in furthering the legacy he left behind.”

Dr. Donald Ofili, in his response, expressed appreciation for the thoughtful gesture from FCMLT Jos, noting that such acts of solidarity exemplify the unity and strength within the Medical Laboratory Science profession. He reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to upholding the ideals of excellence and integrity championed by the Late Prof. Erhabor.
The visit underscored the significance of sustaining healthy relationships between training institutions and the regulatory body. As institutions mandated to produce competent Medical Laboratory Professionals, Colleges like FCMLT Jos play a pivotal role in ensuring that their graduates meet the ethical, academic, and professional standards set by the Council.

As the profession mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished figures, the condolence visit by FCMLT Jos represents more than a tribute; it is a reaffirmation of the collective resolve to build on the foundation laid by Prof. Erhabor and to sustain the vision of a robust, responsive, and unified Medical Laboratory Science sector.

Prof. Erhabor passed away about two weeks ago after a brief illness. Until his death, he served with distinction as Registrar/CEO of the MLSCN, overseeing regulatory and policy reforms that significantly enhanced the visibility and credibility of the profession both nationally and internationally.
