In a bid to foster grassroots sports development, the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze Aka, visited the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremmadu, in his office on Wednesday, to unveil his newly appointed Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Sports, Eze Henry Chibuike. The visit, which prefigured Udenu LGA’s commitment to youth development through sports, also featured discussions on potential partnerships with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The meeting was characterized by enthusiasm and mutual resolve to strengthen sports activities in Udenu and beyond. Commissioner Ekweremmadu welcomed them warmly, praising the Chairman’s proactive steps in prioritizing youth engagement and sports development.
During the visit, Aka announced the Local Government’s plan to organize an Under-18 Ward League in Udenu, a bold initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing young talents across the wards. Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the newly appointed SSA on Sports, Eze Henry Chibuike, highlighted the intention to seek the Ministry’s support and collaboration for the success of the proposed league.
In his remarks, Hon. Ekweremmadu commended the Chairman for his visionary leadership and alignment with the Ministry’s broader goal of mobilizing and activating sports activities in all Local Government Areas across the State. He expressed his satisfaction with Udenu’s proactive approach, describing it as a laudable implementation of the Ministry’s vision.
“The steps taken by Udenu LGA demonstrate a clear commitment to engaging the younger generation through sports. This is exactly what we envisioned—using sports as a unifying and developmental tool to interact with and empower our youth,” Ekweremmadu stated.
He further assured the Chairman and the SSA of the Ministry’s support for sports development in Udenu. According to him, the Ministry will partner with the Local Government to ensure the success of the Under-18 Ward League and other sports initiatives.
The proposed league is expected to bring together talented young athletes from the 10 wards in Udenu, fostering a spirit of competition, unity, and sportsmanship. It will also provide a platform for scouting and mentoring promising talents who could represent the State and Nation in future sporting events.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reiterating their commitment to working collaboratively to ensure the growth and development of sports in Udenu LGA and Enugu State at large. This partnership is poised to inspire other Local Governments to adopt similar initiatives, further boosting grassroots sports development across the state.
