In a landmark event that showcased the commitment of Udenu Local Government Area to effective governance, the Udenu Legislative Assembly officially inaugurated its various House Committees. The inauguration, held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Local Government Multipurpose Hall in Udenu Secretariat, Obollo Afor, was attended by prominent political figures from Nsukka Senatorial Zone and beyond.
The event, which featured an expanded ceremony, brought together current and former Councillors, as well as key stakeholders in Local governance. Presided over by the Leader of the Udenu Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Odo, the occasion was designed to equip the Committees with their terms of reference and responsibilities, as well as emphasize their pivotal roles in supervising various sectors of the Local Government Area.
Dr. Nnamdi, flanked by Mr. Odo Fimber, Clerk of the House, directed proceedings, providing a comprehensive outline of the objectives, operational guidelines, and leadership of each Committee. He stressed the importance of these Committees in carrying out the day-to-day legislative activities of the Council and ensuring proper oversight and accountability across all Local government sectors.
The Chairman of Udenu LGA — Aka Eze Aka and his Deputy Hon. Mrs. Onyinye Odoh were present at the occasion. Others include Rt. Hon. Chika Aroh, the Secretary to the Local Government, and Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Dr. Jude O. Ukwueze.
The highlight of the occasion was the formal presentation of Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Odo in his capacity as the South East Zonal Chairman of the Councillors Forum of Nigeria. This dual role underscores Dr. Odo’s influence and leadership within the Local Government system and across the South East region.
In his remarks, Dr. Odo reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to fostering transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in governance. He urged the newly inaugurated Committees to prioritize the needs of the people and to uphold the principles of good governance in their oversight functions.
The heavily-attended ceremony is evidential to the importance of collaboration and unity among political leaders in the zone, with many attendees commending the proactive measures taken by the Udenu Legislative Assembly, under Dr. Odo to strengthen governance at the grassroots level.
As the Committees commence their work, stakeholders and residents alike expressed optimism that this initiative will lead to enhanced service delivery, accountability, and development across the Udenu Local Government Area.
