In a vibrant show of cultural enthusiasm and youth engagement, a delegation from the Enugu State Students General Assembly (ENSGA), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze Aka, at the Council Secretariat, Obollo Afor. The visit was aimed at formally inviting the Chairman to their upcoming cultural carnival tagged “Afamefuna”, and to seek support for the event.
The Students delegation, led by the President of ENSGA, Mr. Iyaba Chibuike, presented details of the forthcoming cultural extravaganza scheduled to hold on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Freedom Square, UNN, by 10am. According to the group, the event, themed “Afamefuna” — meaning “My Name Will Not Be Lost” — is designed as a celebration of Igbo heritage, traditions, and identity, especially among the younger generation.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Iyaba highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to cultural renaissance, stating that “Afamefuna is not just an event; it is a movement geared towards preserving our ancestral values in a fast-modernizing society. Through performances, traditions, and academic platforms, we aim to awaken pride in our roots.”

Also present in the six-member delegation were Mr. Chinwero Emmanuel, the Association’s Financial Secretary, and the Editor-in-Chief of the upcoming Afamefule Magazine, which is set to be unveiled at the event. The team took turns to speak on the importance of cultural identity and the role of youth in promoting Igbo heritage. They also used the occasion to highlight key achievements of the Association, including the award of scholarships to over twenty indigent students across the State.
In his response, Aka Eze Aka warmly received the Students Leaders, commending their proactive efforts in community-building and cultural promotion. He recalled his own days as a Student at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC), and expressed pride in the purposeful engagement of today’s Student Leaders. “I am truly inspired by your initiative. As a former Student, I understand the value of cultural identity and the power of youth activism. Be rest assured of my support — both morally and logistically — to ensure your event is a success,” he stated.

The meeting ended on a cordial note, with the Council Chairman formally accepting their invitation to the cultural carnival. A group photograph was taken to mark the memorable visit.
The ENSGA Cultural Carnival Afamefuna promises to be a colorful and electrifying display of tradition, featuring masquerade performances from the three senatorial zones of Enugu State, traditional wrestling, coronation and chieftaincy titles, cultural dances, traditional marriage exhibitions, the launch of the Afamefule Magazine, and other thrilling attractions.
