The newly elected Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area (LGA), Aka Eze Aka, has hit the ground running in his first week of assuming office, demonstrating a strong commitment to moving the LGA forward.
Aka was sworn in as the 10th Executive Chairman of Udenu LGA on Monday, and wasted no time in diving into his official duties. On Tuesday, October 1st, he observed the 2024 Independence Day celebration, sending out his goodwill message to the people he serves.
Resuming his duties fully on Wednesday, October 2nd at the Local Government Secretariat Obollo Afor, Aka immediately held a top management meeting with the Head of Personnel Management (HPM), Treasurer, and Engineer of the LGA. This strategic gathering set the tone for his administration, as he sought to gather valuable insights and input from his key team members.
Recognizing the importance of understanding the state of the LGA’s affairs, Aka also embarked on a fact-finding appraisal of the Local Council Secretariat. This hands-on approach demonstrates his desire to thoroughly assess the current situation and identify areas that require immediate attention.
On Thursday, Aka traveled to Enugu to be part of the ongoing three-day leadership retreat for the newly sworn-in Local Council Chairmen, their Deputies and HPM of the 17 Local Government Areas, hosted by His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State with a charge on them to fulfill their campaign promises to the people and align with the programs of the State Government to bring quality governance.
Governor Mbah gave the charge on Friday October 3, while addressing the Local Government Executives at the opening of the retreat holding at the Old Government Lodge, G.R. A Enugu.
Speaking on the theme: “Aligning strategy for sustainable economic and infrastructure delivery at the Local Government Level” Governor Mbah reminded the Chairmen and their Deputies of their campaign promises to the people, saying, “The honeymoon is over, it’s time to work the talk”.
Advising the participants on effective leadership, Governor Mbah said, “if you shared a vision with your people, it must have a purpose.You have to express where you are going to wake up in the next two years. When you develop your strategies, what will keep you moving is your love for your people. You must have a clear action plan”
While tasking them on transparency, prudence, and accountability Governor Mbah said: “The money does not belong to you. You must pay attention to the collective interest of the people.”
Earlier in a welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government — Prof Chidiebere Onyia said the training was aimed at communicating Governor Mbah’s agenda and vision to drive accelerated economic growth and achieve a zero poverty headcount in Enugu state.
He said the Governor’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth target of $30 Billion, would be driven by the inclusive and sustainable economic growth, resilience, poverty eradication, restoration of peace and security for the people, property, and critical economic and social process.
According to him, the retreat was designed to to equip Local Government leaders with the leadership skills, strategic tools and collaborative frameworks necessary to deliver on infrastructure and economic development in a way that aligns with State priorities.
It ultimately provides a valuable opportunity for the new officials to learn from seasoned Leaders and share best practices, which Aka is undoubtedly eager to incorporate into his own administration.
As the people of Udenu await the fruits of Aka’s leadership, various communities remain hopeful that his proactive approach and characteristic dedication will pave the way for a brighter future for the LGA. The retreat will end this Sunday and Aka will be back on Monday to continue active business of governance.
