Today, in continuation of his indefatigable bid to address pressing healthcare infrastructure challenges in Udenu Local Government Area, the Chairman, Aka Eze Aka, accompanied by Onyekachi C. Ugwu, and Jude Okwudili Ukwueze (Chief of Staff), visited the ALGON Comprehensive Health Centre, Nkwo Orba, to assess the state of the facility.
The inspection visit, aimed at understanding the extent of infrastructural collapse and inadequate equipment, was an eye-opener as Aka toured the facility, which currently offers only skeletal services due to its deplorable condition. The team was received at the hospital by Hon. Cyril Okanya (Okadigbo), former Vice Chairman of Udenu, and Hon. Collins Eze, the Councilor representing Orba Ward 1.
During the tour, the Community Health Extension Worker in charge of the Center guided the delegation through the various departments. Aka empathized with the plight of the patients and commiserated with two individuals on admission—a middle-aged woman in the female ward and a young child in the pediatric ward. The visit exposed the urgent need for intervention in the healthcare facility, which remains a crucial lifeline for the surrounding communities.
In a significant development during the visit, Aka Eze Aka received a call from Rt. Hon. Dennis Agbo, Member of the House of Representatives representing Udenu/Igbo Eze North Federal Constituency, informing him of a newly approved project under the Federal Ministry of Environment and Water Resources. The project, part of the Federal Government’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiative, will establish a public toilet and borehole at Obollo Afor Market.
This project, initially proposed during the tenure of Hon. Simon Atigwe, has been revisited and brought to fruition by Hon. Agbo. The initiative aims to combat open defecation, promote proper hygiene, and prevent diseases in the Constituency.
The Team Lead from the Federal Ministry of Environment and Water Resources visited the proposed site at Ozo Mmanu Obollo Afor, accompanied by Hon. Agbo’s Legislative Aide. They were received by the Udenu Chairman, flanked by Onyekachi C. Ugwu, Jude Ukwueze, and Hon. Henry Okpe, the Special Assistant on Environment.
The planned public toilet facility will feature twelve water closet units and three 2,000-gallon capacity overhead tanks, ensuring adequate water supply to meet the sanitation needs of the market.
Expressing his gratitude, Aka Eze Aka commended Hon. Agbo for his persistence in actualizing pending projects that will benefit the constituency. “On behalf of the people of Udenu and the entire Federal Constituency, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Hon. Agbo for his dedication and commitment to improving the lives of our people,” Aka remarked.
The dual developments—the inspection of the ALGON Comprehensive Health Centre and the launch of the WASH project at Obollo Afor Market—mark critical steps in addressing healthcare and sanitation challenges in Udenu. Stakeholders have called for continued collaboration to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives and the improvement of living standards for the community.
