The Udenu Local Government Chapter of the Progressives Movement for Peter Mbah (PMPM) has taken a pioneering step in grassroots political mobilization with its formal inauguration held on Sunday, March 14, 2026, at Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The event, which took place at the country home of the Udenu Coordinator of the Movement, Onyekachi C. Ugwu, former Caretaker Chairman of Udenu LGA, preceded the official state-wide inauguration scheduled for today, March 17, 2026. The date coincides with the birthday anniversary of the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, adding symbolic significance to the launch of what has been described as a formidable grassroots political structure.
The Udenu Chapter drew participation from a cross-section of vibrant and committed young leaders representing all ten political wards of the Local Government Area. These individuals, widely regarded as “eggheads” in community mobilization, gathered under the leadership and coordination of Mr. Ugwu, demonstrating unity of purpose and readiness to advance the Movement’s core objectives.
PMPM has rapidly evolved into one of the largest grassroots coalitions in Enugu State, bringing together enthusiastic citizens who are deeply committed to promoting the policies, vision, and achievements of Governor Mbah’s administration. The Movement is driven by firm belief in the Governor’s development philosophy, encapsulated in the widely resonant mantra: “Tomorrow is Here.”
Members of the Udenu Chapter expressed strong enthusiasm and determination to take this message to the hinterlands, ensuring that even the most remote communities are not left out of the ongoing transformation across the State. Their mission is not only to mobilize support but also to serve as a bridge between government and the people, facilitating feedback, strengthening trust, and enhancing participatory governance.
The formal inauguration of PMPM at the state level is expected to take place later today at the Banquet Hall of the Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, by 10:00 a.m. The event is expected to be personally performed by Governor Mbah, marking the official rollout of the Movement across all 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
With an already established structure spanning communities, wards, development centres, and senatorial zones, PMPM is an organized citizenship engagement in governance. Notably, Udenu Local Government has distinguished itself as the first Chapter to consolidate its structure ahead of the statewide launch, setting a pace for others to follow.
Political analysts and governance experts have long emphasized the importance of grassroots organizations in strengthening democratic systems. Movements like PMPM play a critical role in deepening civic participation, enhancing policy awareness, and ensuring that governance is not perceived as distant or disconnected from the people.
A critical success factor for any grassroots movement lies in the quality of its leadership. The choice of the likes of Onyekachi C. Ugwu as Coordinators of PMPM is invaluable, and shows that the Founders have a strategy to anchor the Movement on credible, experienced, and widely respected local figures.
Ugwu’s political pedigree and deep-rooted connection with the people of Udenu have earned him significant local followership. His previous role as Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government Area provided him with firsthand experience in governance and community engagement, making him well-positioned to lead a movement of this magnitude.
Leaders like Ugwu bring not only organizational capacity but also trust, which is an essential currency in grassroots mobilization.
By entrusting the coordination of PMPM to individuals with proven track records and strong grassroots appeal, Governor Mbah’s administration is effectively decentralizing its engagement strategy, ensuring that governance is both inclusive and participatory.
As the state-wide inauguration unfolds today, expectations are high that PMPM will further galvanize support for the Mbah administration and accelerate the dissemination of its development agenda across all corners of Enugu State.
Further updates are expected from the inauguration event later today… Stay tuned!
