Earlier today, the Chairman of Udenu LGA, Aka Eze Aka, in a bold and timely intervention to bolster grassroots security architecture, commissioned modern road checkpoint and patrol facilities in Umu Enachi Community, Amalla Ward. The security infrastructure was generously donated by the Traditional Ruler of the Community, His Royal Highness Igwe Raymond Akor (Igwe Chinyereugo I of Enachi Kingdom), in what has been described as a landmark move towards community-led security enhancement.
The newly commissioned security checkpoint is fortified with cutting-edge surveillance and mobility assets, including Motorbikes, PTZ cameras, and other critical security equipment intended for the Udenu Neighborhood Watch Security Outfit. These facilities are strategically located to deter the growing threats posed by bandits, kidnappers, and marauding herder militias, whose activities have become a concern across many rural Communities in Nigeria.
Igwe Akor, also promised to be paying the security personnel a monthly stipend to maintain the equipment.

The Executive Chairman was accompanied to the occasion by a powerful delegation, including the Leader of Udenu Legislative Council, Rt
Hon. Patrick Ugwu, Councilors of Ogbodu Aba, Imilike and Obollo Etiti Wards, the SLG, Rt. Hon. Chika Aroh, his SPA Political Matters, Hon. Maduka Abonyi, Chief of Staff, Dr. Jude Ukwueze; Senior Special Assistant on Security, Egbuigwe Hillary Udeagha. Also present were the Local Government Supervisors for Works, Education and Health.
In his address, Aka Eze extolled the philanthropic and security-conscious spirit of Igwe Akor, whom he described as a “beacon of hope and leadership in Community development and protection.” The Chairman stated:
“In the face of rising insecurity, the proactive intervention of our Traditional Ruler is a welcome development. His magnanimity in donating these vital equipment proves that security is indeed everyone’s business. This initiative perfectly aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for a safe and economically viable Enugu State, and we are poised to replicate it in Udenu.”

The Chairman further reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions, Town Union Leaders, and local vigilante groups. He emphasized that Community collaboration remains the most effective strategy in preventing crimes and fostering peace in rural areas.
“Security is the bedrock of any meaningful development. We will continue to partner with our royal fathers, Presidents General, and Vigilantes Leaders to ensure that peace reigns in our villages, farms, and streets,” he said.
On his part, HRH Igwe Raymond Akor said the donation was born out of a genuine concern for the safety of his people, especially in view of the security threats that have plagued many rural Communities in recent times. He called on other traditional rulers and well-meaning individuals to join hands with the government in securing lives and property at the grassroots.

The donation and commissioning of the checkpoints mark a significant step in the broader security reform agenda being championed by Governor Peter Mbah in Enugu State. Through various initiatives, including the establishment of a centralized security command, intelligence sharing, and equipping local security outfits, the State Government has shown serious commitment to forestalling insecurity and ensuring that both urban and rural Communities remain safe.
This collaboration between the Udenu Local Government and the traditional institution exemplifies the grassroots approach to security governance advocated by Governor Mbah. It demonstrates that the fight against insecurity requires not just top-down enforcement but active involvement of local actors who understand the terrain and peculiar challenges of their Communities.
Residents of Umu Enachi and neighboring Communities have expressed joy and relief at the development, describing the intervention as timely and life-saving. Community leaders believe that the security checkpoints and donated equipment will go a long way in deterring criminal elements and encouraging socio-economic activities, especially farming and small-scale trading, which had been adversely affected by insecurity.

With this move, Udenu LGA sets a new precedent for security collaboration in Enugu State—one where leadership, both traditional and political, comes together with a unified purpose of securing the people.
As Nigeria continues to battle with multiple layers of security challenges, such bold community-driven initiatives as witnessed in Udenu are not only commendable but worthy of emulation across the country.
