The recent article by MLS Adekoya Abimbola Julius on the leadership crisis within the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) is a classic example of selective narration and consequential misinformation. While no discerning member denies that AMLSN has faced serious challenges in recent years, intellectual honesty demands that such discussions be anchored on facts and full context, not half-truths and emotional conjecture.
It is correct that the crisis began in 2020. However, what the writer conveniently omits is the root cause of that crisis. The leadership turmoil was deliberately triggered by one individual who, having failed to sufficiently mobilize support to win the Abakaliki election, rushed to court on the very day of the election to secure an injunction restraining the process. From that moment, it became increasingly clear to well-meaning Medical Laboratory Scientists across Nigeria that this individual was determined to ascend to the presidency of AMLSN not through free, fair, and credible elections, but through judicial maneuvers, seeking power on a platter rather than by popular mandate.
For those genuinely committed to peace and reconciliation, the 22nd November 2025 AMLSN Stakeholders’ Meeting, held under the leadership of the Ag. Registrar of the Council (Chairman of the Ministerial Committee) and attended by Past Presidents, marked a critical turning point. The recommendation for the dissolution of the 15th National Executive Officers and the conduct of fresh elections, under the doctrine of necessity, was widely welcomed as a pragmatic pathway out of the impasse. Importantly, all three principal actors in the crisis were present and party to these resolutions.
We, the supporters of Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, accepted these recommendations in good faith and have since remained steadfastly committed to a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process. It is therefore both ironic and disingenuous that the supporters of Dr. Uche Odionyenma are now crying foul; given their candidate’s central role in the controversies surrounding both the 2020 and 2023 elections. Their recent conduct, open letters and legal maneuvers suggest not a desire for reconciliation, but a determination to perpetuate a grip on power at all costs.
While Dr. Odionyenma, true to a familiar pattern, continues to resort to court actions to evade elections and undermine peace efforts, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi and his supporters have chosen a different path. This path included building bridges, forging alliances, mobilizing members nationwide, and preparing to test their popularity once again at the polls scheduled for February 7, 2026.

The claim that the Ministerial Mediation Process was lopsided is entirely unfounded. The ANEC recommendation mandating the submission of three representatives from each geopolitical zone is incontrovertible evidence of impartiality, inclusiveness, and procedural fairness.
Stakeholders are therefore urged to respect the Committee’s report and allow the electoral process to proceed unhindered.
Equally false is the insinuation that supporters of Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi “celebrated” the peace meeting. What we celebrated, and continue to celebrate, is the prospect of peace, unity, and institutional restoration, not factional triumphalism.
For over 18 months, the Save-AMLSN Group, standing firmly with the 15th National President, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, has remained united, prayerful, disciplined, and focused on ending a leadership quagmire deliberately engineered by disgruntled interests opposed to the peaceful completion of his tenure.
It is evident that developments arising from the Jos meeting, convened under the auspices of the Northern MLS Consultative Forum, have unsettled the writer and his associates; hence the resort to alarmist narratives and misinformation.
The legal questions raised in the article are neither novel nor unresolved. They were exhaustively addressed by the Ministerial Committee and reaffirmed at the 22nd October 2025 Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Council. We remain confident that the forthcoming electoral process will be credible, transparent, and fair.
We therefore call on all members of AMLSN to disregard propaganda, resist fear-mongering, and support the electoral process. It is time for AMLSN to move forward. We firmly believe that Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi’s leadership offers the most credible pathway to the long-envisaged unity, stability, and institutional rebirth.
Finally, the Ag. Registrar, as Chairman of ANEC, and the Committee members transparently drawn from all geopolitical zones, deserve our collective support, not distraction, intimidation, or campaigns of calumny.
