The Executive Committee of the National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN), Enugu State Chapter, alongside its Udenu Chapter leadership, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, reinforcing their determined desires for economic development and grassroots collaboration.
The delegation, led by Comrade Ezeoha (Dr.) Pat Eneh, the Enugu State Chairman of NUMTEN, included Comrade Emmanuel Chux Ezeh (Secretary), Comrade Michael Chukwu-Obasi (Welfare Secretary), Comrade EzeArinze Ikechukwu (Publicity Secretary), Comrade Onyinye Ozioko (Deputy Women Leader), and Comrade Fabian Eze, the Udenu Chapter Chairman. The meeting, held at the Udenu Local Government Secretariat in Obollo-Afor, centered on fostering a robust partnership between the Traders’ Union and the Local Government administration to enhance trade facilitation, market infrastructure, and economic sustainability.

In his address, Comrade Ezeoha (Dr.) Pat Eneh commended the Udenu LGA Chairman for his visionary leadership and support for market traders, who form the backbone and majority in the informal sector of the economy. He emphasized the significance of a well-organized trading environment, improved market facilities, and policies that protect traders’ interests while ensuring compliance with regulations. He also informed that the coming of NUMTEN is not to conflict existing market association but to harness the mutual relationship between both parties.
“Our markets are the lifeblood of grassroots commerce, and we believe that through a stronger partnership with the Local Government, we can create a more structured, secure, and thriving marketplace for our members,” Dr. Eneh stated.
Responding to the delegation, the Chairman of Udenu LGA expressed appreciation for the visit, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment for traders and entrepreneurs. He highlighted ongoing and future initiatives aimed at improving market infrastructure, sanitation, and security, ensuring that local Traders operate in a conducive environment that enhances productivity and growth.

During the interactive session, critical issues affecting market operations in Udenu were discussed, including:
Market Infrastructure Upgrade – The need for better sanitation, road access, and modern market stalls.
Security and Orderliness – Addressing concerns over market security, regulatory compliance, and revenue collection.
Empowerment Programs – Strengthening government-supported initiatives to provide soft loans, capacity-building, and business development training for traders, particularly women and young entrepreneurs.
