On Thursday, November 21, a team from the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) in Enugu State recently paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze Aka, at the Udenu LG Secretariat in Obollo Afor. The team, led by Dr. Jonathan Ossai, who represented the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Nnaji Eze, was at the meeting to discuss a potential collaboration for the promotion of livestock farming in the Local Government.
During the meeting, Dr. Ossai highlighted L-PRES’s initiative to partner with local farmers in Udenu for the massive production of pigs, goats, poultry, and cattle. He emphasized the project’s commitment to profiling and empowering farmers, equipping them with the necessary resources and skills to enhance productivity and ensure sustainable farming practices.
The Udenu Chairman, Aka Eze Aka, expressed his strong support for the initiative, stating that he was eager to collaborate with the L-PRES team to ensure the success of the project in the local government area, in line with his manifesto and the agriculture blueprint of Dr. Peter Mbah. He assured the team of his administration’s full cooperation and readiness to work hand-in-hand with the farmers to achieve the project’s objectives.
Joining the Chairman at the meeting were the Vice Chairman of the Local Government — Hon. Mrs. Onyinye Odoh, Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Rt. Hon. Chika Aroh, Okwudili Jude Ukwueze, and Onyekachi C. Ugwu, both of whom also expressed their backing for the partnership.
This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing livestock farming in Udenu, with the potential to boost local economies and improve livelihoods through sustainable agricultural practices. L-PRES remains committed to empowering farmers and ensuring resilience within the livestock sector.
L-PRES is a 6-Year Project with Development Objective (PDO) to improve livestock productivity, resilience and commercialization of selected value chains and to strengthen the country’s capacity to respond to an eligible crisis or emergency.
The collaboration between the Udenu Local Government and L-PRES is expected to pave the way for a more productive and resilient agricultural landscape in the region, fostering growth and development in the years to come.
