The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, on Thursday inaugurated the institution’s new Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

The establishment of the unit is aimed at strengthening institutional integrity by curbing corrupt practices and promoting greater transparency in the university’s operations.

Speaking during the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the university’s commitment to fostering a culture of accountability and ethical conduct across all departments and units. He described the initiative as a proactive step towards ensuring that corruption finds no foothold within the premier institution.

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit is expected to serve as an internal mechanism for monitoring, preventing, and addressing unethical behaviours, in line with broader national efforts by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to entrench good governance in tertiary institutions.

Officials at the event expressed optimism that the unit would enhance public confidence in UNN’s administration and contribute to improved service delivery, resource management, and overall institutional development.

The inauguration has been welcomed by stakeholders as a positive move towards rebuilding trust and upholding the core values of integrity, accountability, and excellence for which the University of Nigeria is known.

This development comes as part of ongoing reforms under Professor Ortuanya’s leadership since assuming office as the 16th Vice-Chancellor in August 2025.
