The Enugu State Students General Assembly (ENSGA), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Chapter, has conferred a Merit Award of Excellence on the Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze Aka, in recognition of his support for youth development, cultural renaissance, and community empowerment.
The prestigious award was conferred during the ENSGA Cultural Extravaganza held at the historic Freedom Square, UNN, on April 25, 2025. However, the physical presentation of the award was made three days ago at the Chairman’s office in Udenu Local Government Secretariat, Obollo-Afor, when a delegation of ENSGA executives paid him a visit in his office.
Themed “Afamefuna” — an evocative Igbo expression meaning “My Name Will Not Be Lost” — the cultural extravaganza was conceived as a platform to celebrate and promote Igbo heritage, traditions, and identity, particularly among the youth. The event attracted students, cultural enthusiasts, academics, and dignitaries from across Enugu State and beyond.
According to the ENSGA leadership, the decision to honour Aka Eze Aka was informed by his passionate commitment to the promotion of local content, cultural identity, and the values that define the Igbo nation. They described him as a leader who has continually demonstrated love for his people, respect for tradition, and dedication to sustainable grassroots development.
Speaking during the award presentation in his office, the leader of the delegation, Comrade Iyaba Chibuike, who is the President of ENSGA UNN Chapter, recalled that the association had earlier visited the Chairman on April 8, 2025, to seek his support and formally invite him to the cultural event.
Receiving the award, a visibly elated Aka Eze expressed profound gratitude to the students for the recognition. He described the gesture as a humbling reminder that true leadership is measured by the positive impact one makes in the lives of others, especially the younger generation.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting youth-driven initiatives and preserving the cultural legacy of the people of Udenu and Enugu State at large.
The Chairman also commended the ENSGA for organizing a culturally enriching and intellectually stimulating event, describing it as a timely intervention in an era where indigenous values face threats from globalization and cultural erosion.

This latest recognition adds to the growing list of accolades received by Aka Eze, who has been widely celebrated for his dynamic leadership style, infrastructural development strides, and people-oriented governance model that continues to redefine grassroots politics in Enugu State.
