Today, in a heartfelt ceremony that celebrated the completion of their service year, Aka Eze Aka — Chairman of the Udenu Local Government Area, addressed the 2023 Batch C, Stream II National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members who have completed their one year compulsory National Service and observed their Passing Out Parades (POP) this morning.
The Chairman hosted a modest valedictory session for them at the Corps members’ lodge, Obollo Afor.
He commended them for their dedication and resilience throughout the past year, stating, “You have served Udenu and our nation with honor and commitment. While this chapter ends, the pages of your future are yours to write. Continue to embody the spirit of patriotism and integrity as you navigate your next endeavors.”
He further urged Corpers to remain pillars of their communities and embrace roles that inspire national unity. “In the spirit of the NYSC, which was established to foster reconciliation, reconstruction, and the rebuilding of post-war Nigeria, let your actions be a reflection of the common ties that bind us as a nation,” he remarked as he hands each of them a token for their transportation.
The history of the NYSC, created on May 22, 1973, during the administration of General Yakubu Gowon, pivots around the promotion of national unity and development among the youths. “Remember that after today, you will no longer be Corpers; but you have to continue being change agents. Your experiences have equipped you with skills that can transform lives and uplift communities,” Aka added with conviction.
In response, the Corps Members Liaison Officer (CLO), Targule Raymond speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed profound gratitude towards the Chairman. “We thank you, Mr. Chairman, for your support and affection towards us. You and your predecessors made our welfare a priority throughout the service year. Your administration’s kindness has significantly eased our stay here in Udenu,” he said, representing the voices of approximately 30 Corps members present.
The Udenu Local Government NYSC Inspector, Mr. Idigo Ikechukwu also appreciated the Aka and urged the Corps members to keep the flame of forthrightness burning.
The Chairman was accompanied to the event by Dr. Okwudili Jude and a few other Council staff.
The event closed with a commitment to continuing the values instilled during their NYSC journey as the graduates prepared to embark on their next life adventures, inspired to make impactful contributions to society.
