Udenu Local Government Chairman, Aka Eze Aka, has issued a strong warning to all teachers within the Local Government Area, insisting that henceforth, every school must resume full academic activities on Mondays or risk punitive measures.
This directive came during an interactive session held on Monday afternoon at the Council Secretariat in Obollo-Afor, where the Chairman met with Head Teachers from public schools across the ten wards of the Local Government. The engagement was part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring full compliance with the Enugu State Government’s “No Sit-at-Home” policy.
Speaking with passion and firmness, Aka stated that any act of absenteeism by teachers or students(pupils) on Mondays would no longer be tolerated. He stressed that the unlawful Monday sit-at-home directive issued in the past by non-state actors had become a major hindrance to educational development and public service delivery in the State, and must be permanently discarded.
“Let me make it categorically clear,” Aka declared, “no teacher or pupil should be absent from school on Mondays. Governor Peter Mbah has shown courage and leadership in ending the era of fear and enforced inactivity. It is now our collective duty to ensure that normalcy is fully restored, especially in the education sector. Anyone who stays away from duty on Mondays is not only violating government directives but also sabotaging our children’s future; and such actions will attract disciplinary measures.”
The Chairman further reminded the teachers of the critical role they play in shaping society and the minds of future leaders. He noted that the ripple effects of keeping schools closed on Mondays had harmed not only academic performance but also the psyche and morale of schoolchildren who look up to teachers for inspiration.

He summarily posited that Monday is not just the first working day of the week, it is the foundation of productivity. It sets the tone for the rest of the week, and the people cannot continue to mortgage this day to fear and lawlessness, warning that the era is gone, and Udenu, are fully aligned with the State Government’s position.
Recall that prior to the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Mondays in the South East, including parts of Enugu State, had been marked by widespread shutdowns following a sit-at-home order enforced by elements sympathetic to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). These forced closures affected businesses, schools, markets, and civil service operations, dealing a significant blow to economic and social activities across the region.
However, under Governor Mbah’s administration, the State Government has taken decisive steps to dismantle this illegal order, reinstate public confidence, and restore law and order. As part of his support for this vision, Aka Eze Aka has been at the forefront in Udenu, actively mobilizing stakeholders to revive the spirit of diligence, civic responsibility, and educational excellence.
During the meeting, Head Teachers present unanimously assured the Chairman of their commitment to enforcing the directive. They pledged to return to their various schools and ensure that all teachers and pupils resume normal academic activities on Mondays without fear or compromise.
The Chairman was accompanied to the session by key members of his administration, including the Secretary to the Local Government, Chika Aroh; the Special Assistant to the Chairman on Political Matters, Hon. Maduka Abonyi; and the Special Assistant on Special Duties, Onyekachi C. Ugwu. Their presence underscored the seriousness of the message and the united front of the Udenu Council in implementing State Government policies at the grassroots.
