The Udenu Local Government Council has officially inaugurated its Local Government Boundary Committee, aimed at strengthening inter-community peace and ensuring adherence to constitutional provisions. The inauguration ceremony took place yesterday at the Council Headquarters in Obollo-Afor, with the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mrs. Onyinye Odo, presiding over the proceedings.
The event, which was held in the Deputy Mayor’s office, brought together a distinguished mix of stakeholders from across the Local Government. Members of the committee include prominent Traditional Rulers, Heads of all security agencies within the Local Government Area, representatives of civil society organizations, and other critical voices from the grassroots.

In her inaugural address, the Head of the Committee, and Vice Chairman of Udenu, Hon. Mrs. Odo expressed profound appreciation for the cooperation of stakeholders and reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to peaceful boundary demarcation and conflict resolution. She emphasized that the establishment of the committee aligns with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the directives of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), which require all Local Governments to constitute boundary committees to address disputes and enhance Local governance.
She highlighted the importance of inclusivity in the composition of the Committee, noting that the presence of Traditional Leaders, Security officials, and Civil society actors ensures a multi-stakeholder approach to decision-making and conflict prevention.
The Committee’s mandate includes identifying and resolving boundary disputes among communities within Udenu LGA, liaising with neighboring Local Government Councils and the Enugu State Boundary Committee, sensitizing communities on the importance of boundary peace, and updating boundary maps where necessary in collaboration with relevant agencies.
Also present were the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the Head of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Udenu, and the Area Commander of the Department of State Services (DSS), all of whom pledged their agencies’ support in ensuring the Committee’s objectives are met with professionalism and diligence.
The Chairman of Udenu Local Government, Aka Eze Aka, sent his goodwill message commending the Deputy Mayor and Committee members for their readiness to serve.
The newly inaugurated committee is expected to commence its assignment immediately, with regular meetings and Community engagement programs scheduled to begin soon.
