History was made in Obollo Etiti Autonomous Community, on October 26, 2024, as Prince Dr. Godwin Chinedu Odo, LLD, Regent-Emeritus of Obollo Etiti, formally handed over the reins of traditional rulership to the newly coronated monarch, His Royal Highness Igwe Joseph Chukwuemeka Ugwuaba, Aguna-eche Ibe III. The significant occasion, which took place at Egudele Ada Primary School field, the venue of the Coronation and Ofala festival, was followed by a grand reception in honour of the Regent-Emeritus at his residence—the palace of his Late Father, Igwe Godwin Nnamani Odo, Aguna-eche Ibe II.
The Ofala festival and coronation, which symbolized the transition of power, was attended by prominent dignitaries, Community leaders, and well-wishers. In his emotional farewell address, Dr. Godwin Odo reflected on his more than six years of regency, which began on June 12, 2018, following the passing of his Late Father. He recounted the challenges, responsibilities, and achievements of his tenure, emphasizing the need for continuity, justice, and peace under the new traditional ruler.

Following the official handover, Prince Dr. Odo proceeded to his residence, where an elaborate reception awaited him. Hundreds of relatives, friends, and well-wishers had gathered in the palace of his Late Father, celebrating his dedicated service to the Community. The atmosphere was filled with joy, appreciation, and merriment, as guests were treated to sumptuous meals, drinks, and cultural performances.
The highlight of the reception was the arrival of His Excellency, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, who came in person to honour the Regent-Emeritus. His presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the respect accorded to Dr. Godwin Odoh for his exemplary leadership.

Also in attendance was Chief Dr. Sir Anterus C. Ezeh, the Okpataozuoha 1,and Founder/Proprietor — La Vera College of Nursing Sciences Nsukka, alongside other distinguished personalities, including prominent political figures, Business Moguls, Clergy, and Traditional leaders. The gathering was a testament to the goodwill and admiration that Prince Dr. Odoh enjoys both within and beyond Obollo Etiti.
During his regency, Dr. Odo played a pivotal role in maintaining the stability of the Community. He diligently presided over cabinet meetings, navigated security challenges, adjudicated disputes, and spearheaded initiatives such as fundraising for Community Security and COVID-19 palliatives.
He also donated thirty (30) computer sets for the establishment of a Community ICT Centre in honour of his Late Father, to empower the youths and women and enhance digital skills acquisition among the teeming youths of the Community.
Despite numerous challenges—including the burning of his Late father’s palace—he remained steadfast, ensuring that the Traditional Stool was not left vacant. His leadership was marked by integrity, accountability, and selflessness, a legacy that will be remembered in the annals of Obollo Etiti’s history.
In his final words as Regent-Emeritus, Prince Odo pledged his support to the new monarch, Igwe Joseph Chukwuemeka Ugwuaba, Aguna-eche Ibe III, urging him to uphold the values of fairness, justice, and inclusivity in steering the affairs of the Community. He also called on the people of Obollo Etiti to rally around their new Traditional Ruler and work collectively for the progress of the land.

The transition of power from Prince Dr. Godwin to Igwe Ugwuaba marks a new chapter in the history of Obollo Etiti, signifying continuity, unity, and hope for a greater future. As the celebrations continued into the night, the people of Obollo Etiti rejoiced in the smooth transition of leadership, confident that their cherished traditions and heritage would be preserved and strengthened under the reign of Aguna-eche Ibe III.
