In a shocking incident in Itchi Town, located in Igbo Eze South Local Government, a group of masqueraders was arrested yesterday following a violent attack on a pregnant woman. The woman reportedly suffered injuries and lost consciousness as a result of the assault.

According to Teclus Ike Ugwueze upon learning of the incident, the Executive Chairman of Igbo Eze South, Barrister Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, issued an immediate order for the arrest of those involved. The police, in collaboration with the Neighborhood Watch, successfully apprehended the masqueraders, who were subsequently detained at the local police station.

Barrister Ukwueze condemned the actions of the masqueraders, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate any form of banditry, criminality, or terrorism disguised as cultural expression. He reiterated that culture should be a source of fun and entertainment, not a cover for violence.

This morning, the arrested individuals are set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Enugu. This move aims to serve as a strong deterrent and a stern warning to others who might misuse masquerade traditions for unlawful activities.
