The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE), witnessed a surge of civic engagement and political awareness on Wednesday as the Grassroots Network for Peter Ndubuisi Mbah (GNPM) carried out a strategic outreach aimed at deepening students’ understanding of governance while providing humanitarian support.
The well-attended event attracted a large number of students, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere across the campus. The enthusiasm of participants was evident as students openly expressed their awareness of ongoing developments in Enugu State, with many engaging actively in the programme’s activities.
A key feature of the outreach was an interactive session designed to assess and enhance students’ knowledge of government policies and projects. Anchored by Dr. Ukwueze Okwudili Jude, Chief of Staff to Udenu Local Government Council Chairman, and a founding member of the Network, the session highlighted existing gaps in awareness as well as the prevalence of misinformation regarding Gov. Mbah’s administration’s achievements. The organisers noted that addressing such gaps remains central to the Network’s grassroots mobilisation strategy.

Students who demonstrated knowledge of key government initiatives were rewarded with various items, including power banks, stethoscopes, hand fans, face masks, gloves, food packs, and beverages. The approach combined education with incentives, encouraging participation while reinforcing awareness of public policies and development programmes.
Representatives of the network used the platform to outline the administration’s interventions across critical sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, water supply, and economic development. Particular attention was drawn to an ongoing water project located at the entrance of the institution, which is nearing completion and is expected to significantly improve access to potable water for both students and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the event, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Network, Cajetan Ali, commended the Students and University management for their warm reception. He described the early turnout of Students as a reflection of growing interest in governance and civic participation among young people. Ali emphasised that the outreach forms part of a broader effort to ensure that government policies are not only implemented but also clearly understood at the grassroots level. He also stressed the importance of continuity in governance to sustain ongoing development initiatives. Hence, the need to re-elect Gov. Mbah come 2027.
The outreach also featured the presentation of educational materials to the University management, including whiteboards and writing supplies, aimed at improving the teaching and learning environment.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Emaimo, represented by the Dean of Students Affairs, Mrs. Okafor Ngozi, expressed appreciation for the visit and the donations. She described the initiative as unprecedented, noting that it combined intellectual engagement with the provision of both academic and Medical support materials. She further acknowledged the visible impact of ongoing government projects within and around the institution.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Rt. Comr. Ugwuoti Marius Ikechukwu, also lauded the initiative, stating that it brought governance closer to the students community. He affirmed the support of the students body for the administration, citing tangible projects and policy outcomes. He added that students within the institution and its environs are committed to supporting the administration in future electoral processes.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Sct. Darlington Ugwuegbe, a member of the Network’s Board of Trustees and CEO of AMODHILZ Diagnostic Center, appreciated the University authorities, Students leaders, and Stakeholders for their cooperation.
The event concluded with participants expressing satisfaction with the engagement, which further explains the importance of sustained grassroots communication in bridging the gap between policy implementation and public understanding, particularly among young people in academic institutions.
