As preparations intensify for the 19th Annual Public Health Lecture 2025 organized by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has stepped up engagements with key stakeholders to ensure the event’s success. The LOC, led by its Chairman, Dr. Valentine Wuyep, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Government House to follow up on a formal letter addressed to the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, who is billed to serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the high-profile event.

The LOC delegation was warmly received at the Government House despite the unavailability of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Architect Samuel Jatau, and the Chief of Staff, both of whom were said to be on official assignments on behalf of the Governor. Representing the AMLSN Plateau State Branch during the visit were the State Branch Chairman, Mr. Martin Dagen Agwo, and the Branch Publicity Secretary, Mr. Michael Idoko Abah.

According to Dr. Wuyep, the visit was aimed at consolidating partnerships and reaffirming the Association’s commitment to working with the government to advance Public Health in the State and Nigeria at large. The State Government Officials expressed strong support for the upcoming Public Health Lecture Series and assured the LOC of the Government’s willingness to provide necessary backing for its success.

The Annual Public Health Lecture Series, now in its 19th edition, is a flagship program of AMLSN aimed at advancing discourse on public health challenges and solutions in Nigeria. This year’s theme, “Environmental Degradation and Pollution: Advancing Public Health for Sustainable and Healthy Communities,” promises to deal on the urgency of addressing environmental health as a critical determinant of public well-being.

The sub-themes are thoughtfully crafted to cover key areas affecting Nigeria’s public health ecosystem:

— Solid Mineral Exploration and Public Health Implications

— Curbing Infectious Diseases through Effective Waste Management

— Immunization Programs and Vaccine-Preventable Disease Control

— Public-Private Partnerships in Water Pollution Mitigation

— Illegal Mining and Socioeconomic consequences

By bringing together public health experts, policymakers, and Medical Laboratory Scientists, the Lecture Series provides a robust platform for knowledge sharing, policy influence, and professional development. It reflects AMLSN’s strategic commitment to building a resilient and responsive healthcare system in Nigeria.

The keynote address will be delivered by the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Piyo, while Prof. Theodore Bala Maiyaki, SAN, will chair the occasion. Notable dignitaries such as Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, Commissioner of Health, Plateau State, and Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, 15th National President of AMLSN, will also be in attendance.

The event is scheduled for Friday, May 16th, 2025, at 10:00 AM, and will hold at the Unity Hall, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
