In a significant move towards enhancing youth and community development, the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Enugu State, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, visited Udenu Local Government Area yesterday to oversee the grand finale of the Tomorrow Is Here Initiative’s Short-Term Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training.
The five-day program, hosted at the Multipurpose Hall of the Udenu Local Government Secretariat in Obollo Afor, was conducted in collaboration with The Porters Wheel Foundation and actively supported by the Udenu Local Government Council under the leadership of its Chairman, Aka Eze Aka. Beneficiaries were carefully selected from the ten political wards within the Local Government, ensuring an inclusive reach.
As earlier reported by the AkaEzeAka Media Team, the training program was designed to equip participants with practical skills aimed at fostering economic independence and entrepreneurship. Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, recognized for prioritizing human capital development, was applauded by attendees for its role in creating such transformative opportunities for residents.
The curriculum for the vocational training spanned multiple sectors, targeting both traditional and contemporary market needs. Participants received hands-on training in the following areas:
Food Production: Cake making, Chin-Chin production, Peanut, butter pie preparation, Cosmetics.
Household Products: Laundry soap, and powdered detergent production, Air freshener and liquid soap making, Hair cream, disinfectant, body perfume, and body gel formulation.
Natural Beverages: Soya milk preparation, Zobo drink production,
Digital and Business Skills: Social media marketing, Entrepreneurship skills, Product packaging and marketing, Bookkeeping techniques.
These carefully selected skills aim to empower beneficiaries to establish sustainable small-scale businesses while contributing to local economic growth.
The final day of the training was a vibrant celebration of the participants’ achievements. Highlights included:
Skill Demonstrations: Trainees showcased their newly acquired expertise, impressing the audience with live demonstrations.
Product Displays: A wide range of products created during the training were exhibited, reflecting the participants’ creativity and professionalism.
Packaging Excellence: The trainees’ keen attention to product packaging was commended as a testament to the quality of training provided.
Barr. Ekweremadu and Chairman Aka Eze Aka lauded both the trainers and trainees for their hard work and commitment. Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the program’s outcomes and reiterated the state government’s commitment to empowering its citizens. Among the dignitaries that witnessed the grand finale are — the Vice Chairman of Udenu LGA, Hon. Mrs. Onyinye Odoh, Hon. Onyekachi C Ugwu, and Dr. Jude Okwudili Ukwueze.
In his address, Barr. Ekweremadu assured participants that the government would provide additional support to ensure the sustainability of their ventures. “This program is not just a training; it is the beginning of a journey toward economic self-reliance,” he stated.
The trainees, in turn, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Mbah and his administration for their dedication to grassroots development. Many shared personal testimonies of how the skills acquired during the program had already begun to transform their outlook on entrepreneurship.
