The Udenu Legislative Council has officially reinstated Rt. Hon. Daniel Aroh, Councillor representing Udunedem Ward, following a three-month suspension handed down on March 13, 2025, over allegations of gross misconduct.
Hon. Aroh, who had faced disciplinary action after what the Council described as behavior unbecoming of a legislator, tendered a formal letter of apology to the House last month. The letter, addressed to the Council through the Leader, Rt. Hon. Patrick Ogbonna Ugwu, expressed remorse over the actions that led to his suspension and requested reconsideration for his reinstatement. In his words: “I, Rt. Hon. Daniel Edozie Aroh, Councilor Udunedem Ward having meticulously seen the need for unity among the Udenu Legislators, as well as to protect the mandates of the good people of Udunedem Ward and to foster the good work of the in touch with tomorrow led government by Hon. Aka Eze Aka, hereby sincerely apologize for all the gross misconduct from me.”
In line with due legislative procedure, the apology was referred to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, chaired by a senior member of the Council. The Committee undertook a thorough review of the letter and the circumstances surrounding the earlier suspension. After what sources described as “exhaustive deliberations,” the Committee submitted a recommendation to the House, urging that Hon. Aroh be reabsorbed into the Legislative Council.
During today’s plenary session, the Council adopted the Committee’s recommendation and announced Hon. Aroh’s reinstatement. He resumed full legislative duties with immediate effect.
Sources within the Council revealed that members viewed the reinstatement as a signal to all Councillors on the importance of decorum, ethical conduct, and respect for legislative norms.
The initial suspension in March came amid a heated political climate within the Council, and his re-absorption is expected to help restore unity and focus among the Councillors as they continue to execute their oversight and legislative mandates in partnership with the Executive arm of the Local Government.
The Udenu Legislative Council has recently taken a firmer stance on internal discipline and accountability, with several reforms introduced under the leadership of Hon. Patrick Ugwu, aimed at strengthening the institutional credibility of the Council and improving its service delivery at the grassroots level.
Observers and political analysts have hailed the Council’s handling of the matter as an empirical evidence of the maturity of democratic institutions at the Local Government level, particularly in Enugu State.
