Tragedy has befallen Obollo and indeed, Udenu LGA, following the sudden and untimely death of Hon. Caius Nwodo, fondly known as Smeok, a grassroots mobilizer, and an Entrepreneur. His death occurred on Easter Tuesday, April 22, 2025, as he was recovering from complications related to pneumonia and bronchitis.

Hon. Nwodo, a native of Umuitodo in Obollo Etiti Ward, had been undergoing treatment in a hospital in Enugu after falling ill nearly two months ago. He showed promising signs of recovery and had resumed his work and other public engagements. However, he reportedly suffered a relapse and passed away suddenly, leaving family, friends, and associates in deep grief.

Until his passing, Hon. Nwodo served as the Local Government Coordinator of the Special Public Works (SPW) Scheme of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Udenu LGA. The SPW program is a federal initiative aimed at reducing unemployment by engaging youth in various public works, including rural development projects. Under his leadership, the scheme in Udenu boasted a workforce of approximately 120 young people actively contributing to local infrastructure and community services.

He was also an Aide to the immediate past Executive Chairman of Udenu LGA and the current member representing Udenu Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Onah. He played critical behind-the-scenes roles in policy implementation, during the time.

His sudden departure has sent shockwaves through the political and social fabric of Udenu. Tributes have begun pouring in from political Leaders, Community Stakeholders, and the Youths who benefitted directly from his programs. Smeok was a familiar figure across Udenu, known for his humility and passion.

Speaking on the loss, Hon. Solomon Onah expressed deep sadness, describing Hon. Nwodo as “a loyal ally, a devoted Aide, and a man whose life was defined by resilience and purpose.”
He added, “His death is not just a personal loss to me, but a huge blow to my family and the friendship we have built together over the years.”
