The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has announced the passing of Professor Tosan Erhabor, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN). His death has been described as a monumental loss to the Medical Laboratory Science profession in Nigeria and the diaspora.
In a solemn statement issued by Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, the 15th National President of AMLSN, the Association expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Professor Erhabor, the leadership of MLSCN, and the entire Community of Medical Laboratory Professionals across the nation.

“With a heart heavy, I announce, on behalf of the National Executive Officers and entire membership of AMLSN, the shocking and painful passing of our esteemed Professional icon, Prof. Tosan Erhabor,” Dr. Ifeanyi stated. “His sudden demise is a monumental loss to MLSCN, AMLSN, and the entire body of Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria and the diaspora. Prof. Erhabor’s life and work left an indelible mark on generations of Practitioners and the professional landscape of our field.”

Under Professor Erhabor’s leadership, the regulatory scope of MLSCN was transformed, with a renewed focus on education, training, and professional practice. He was celebrated as a reform-minded leader whose policies elevated the standards of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria and empowered practitioners on the global stage.
According to AMLSN President, his tenure witnessed a bold transformation of MLSCN’s regulatory framework, enhanced institutional efficiency, and a commitment to excellence that strengthened the profession’s global relevance.

His legacy, the statement emphasized, “endures in the lives he impacted and the systems he strengthened.”
In honor of his distinguished service, AMLSN has declared a week-long mourning period beginning Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 21, 2025. During this period, all AMLSN members are to wear black armbands as a symbol of collective grief. Additionally, facility-based AMLSN Chapters across the country have been directed to open Condolence Registers in his honor.
In a further mark of respect, the World Biomedical Laboratory Science Day—scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2025—is to be observed in a low-key manner, devoid of celebration or pageantry.
Dr. Ifeanyi, on behalf of AMLSN, extended heartfelt condolences to Professor Erhabor’s wife, children, colleagues at MLSCN, and the FCT Branch of AMLSN, where he was a member.
“May Prof. Tosan Erhabor’s soul rest in peace, and may the Lord grant his loved ones and our professional family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement concluded.
The AMLSN’s tribute ended with poignant words: “Adieu, great Reformer. Your legacy lives on.”
AMLSN is the umbrella professional body for medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria. Founded in 1964, the Association advocates for the advancement of Medical Laboratory Science education, practice, and research in the country. Whereas, MLSCN is a federal regulatory agency responsible for regulating the practice of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria, ensuring professional standards, and safeguarding public health through quality Laboratory services.
Both work synergistically to promote quality Medical Laboratory practice in the country.
