For about 17 long years, the Ekwenu Obollo Afor community has been embroiled in a debilitating crisis over the selection of its Traditional Ruler. This protracted conflict has not only sowed discord among the villagers but has also obstructed the development and cohesion of this vibrant community. The recent presentation of Chief Chinwe Eze as the Traditional Ruler-elect to the Government of Udenu Local Government following the issuance of certificate of observation and recognition by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters as well as the stamp of authority by the leadership of Udenu Local Government Council is a significant step towards resolving this long-standing impasse. However, it must be accompanied by a concerted effort from all factions to foster peace and unity.
The journey to this moment has been mired in complexities. Allegations, court actions, and multiple petitions against Chief Eze illustrate just how contentious the selection process has been. Diverse interests and factions, notably led by Chief Matthew Agu and Hillary Onah, have navigated a wavy and complex course of grievances and disputes. Amidst this backdrop of hostility, the proclamation of Chief Eze is not merely a victory for him, but also a potential turning point for the entire community.
Ekwenu Obollo Afor has witnessed enough strife. The divide among its people has created an environment where progress is stifled. Development projects have been delayed, economic opportunities squandered, and the very fabric of the community has been frayed.
