In a move to ensure strict compliance with healthcare standards and statutory provisions, the Enugu State Ministry of Health on Tuesday conducted an extensive inspection visit to the state-of-the-art La Vera College Hospital, Nsukka, following the hospital’s recent registration with the Ministry — a prerequisite for full operational commencement.
The inspection team, comprising top officials from various departments within the Ministry, was led by notable healthcare regulators including Dr. Onuigbo Hygenius, Director of the Medical Laboratory Department; Dr. Samuel Egwuonwu, Director of Medical Services; Dr. Mgbodile Amaechi, Head of Monitoring and Inspection; and Obi Ifeanyi Martins, a Field Officer with the Ministry.
The team was warmly received by the management and clinical leadership of La Vera College Hospital. The hospital administrator, Dr. Louis Ezema, coordinated the internal team comprising unit heads from all clinical departments — Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Services, and Diagnostics — as well as non-clinical departments such as Revenue Services. Together, they conducted the officials on a comprehensive tour of the hospital’s expansive facility.
La Vera College Hospital, a 93-bed tertiary healthcare facility, impressed the inspection team with its modern infrastructure, state-of-the-art medical equipment — most of which are newly imported — and its team of qualified medical professionals. Each department of the hospital was meticulously reviewed, with the inspectors assessing service readiness, compliance with healthcare regulations, staff qualifications, and the standard of medical equipment.
Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Samuel Egwuonwu
noted that the diagnostics and laboratory services department was particularly well equipped, stating that the hospital’s commitment to precision diagnostics was commendable and essential in the delivery of modern healthcare.
On his part, Dr. Mgbodile Amaechi emphasized the importance of maintaining the high standards observed during the visit, urging the hospital management to sustain their efforts and continue to invest in quality human resources and equipment.
The hospital’s Administrator, Dr. Louis Ezema, expressed gratitude to the Ministry for the visit and their professional feedback. He reiterated La Vera College Hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services to the people of Enugu State and Nigeria at large.
La Vera College Hospital stands as a beacon of modern tertiary healthcare, with services ranging from inpatient and outpatient care to advanced diagnostics, surgical procedures, maternal health, and emergency medicine. With the nod of approval from the Enugu State Ministry of Health, the facility is now set to commence full-scale operations, offering residents of Nsukka and neighboring communities access to top-tier medical services.
The visit concluded with the inspection team expressing satisfaction and confidence in the hospital’s readiness and potential impact, while encouraging the management to continue prioritizing quality, safety, and professionalism in their operations.
