A coordinated security operation in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt, resulting in the rescue of the victim and the neutralization of one suspected kidnapper.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, began at about 4:00 a.m. when security operatives received intelligence that a woman, identified as Mrs. Ogechi Ugwu, had been abducted in Ozalla Ezimo and taken into a nearby forest.

Acting swiftly on the information, a joint task force comprising members of the Ezimo Vigilante Group, Udenu Forest Guards, Neighbourhood Watch Security Outfit, Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Army mobilized into the forest in a coordinated rescue operation.
According to a member of the security team who spoke on condition of anonymity, the operatives engaged the kidnappers in a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Overwhelmed by the superior coordination and firepower of the joint team, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning their victim.

“One of the kidnappers was neutralized during the operation, while others escaped with gunshot wounds and are currently being tracked,” the source disclosed.
The rescued victim was found unharmed.
Security sources further revealed that members of the gang are suspected to be linked to a recent abduction incident in Amalla community two days earlier. However, Friday’s operation is being seen as a decisive response that disrupted the group’s activities.
The latest success adds to a growing list of security gains recorded in Udenu in recent months under the leadership of the Council Chairman, Aka Eze Aka. Observers attribute these achievements to a deliberate strategy of strengthening community-based security architecture and fostering synergy among multiple security agencies.

Notably, on January 29, joint security operatives in the area rescued an Anglican priest, Rev. Anayochukwu, in Ezimo after a similar operation that led to the elimination of five suspected kidnappers and the recovery of a firearm.
Stakeholders have linked the consistent successes to the Udenu Security Summit convened in December last year by the Council Chairman. The summit brought together key security stakeholders and community leaders to design a proactive framework for intelligence sharing, rapid response, and sustained vigilance.
Speaking during a visit to the Obollo Afor Police Station, where the body of the neutralized suspect was deposited, Aka Eze Aka commended the professionalism of the operatives involved in the latest operation.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Udenu remains hostile to criminal elements.
“Our Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has always maintained that no part of Enugu will be safe for criminals. And here at Udenu we will continue to make our land uninhabitable for criminals. We have zero tolerance for kidnapping and all forms of criminality,” the Chairman declared.
He further assured residents of sustained government support for security agencies and local vigilante groups, emphasizing that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration.
Some residents and community leaders interviewed praised the growing effectiveness of the joint security framework, describing it as a model of grassroots-driven security collaboration. Many noted that the consistent disruption of criminal activities is restoring public confidence and reinforcing a sense of safety across the local government.
