The Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Caleb Onyema Ani, has congratulated former Governor of old Anambra State, Senator (Dr.) Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, on his 86th birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose legacy of leadership and service continues to resonate across Nigeria.
In a statement issued on behalf of the government and people of Enugu South Local Government Area on Saturday, Dr. Ani said Senator Nwobodo remained one of the most accomplished political leaders to emerge from Enugu State and the South-East.
He said the former governor’s contributions to governance, politics, sports, education and infrastructure development had left lasting impacts on the country.
“Your life has remained a remarkable symbol of visionary leadership, selfless service, courage and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of our people,” the statement said.
Dr. Ani noted that Senator Nwobodo’s tenure as the first Executive Governor of the old Anambra State laid developmental foundations whose relevance had endured for decades.
According to him, several landmark projects initiated under the former governor’s administration still stand as enduring symbols of foresight and purposeful leadership.
He identified projects such as the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Nike Lake Resort, educational institutions and other socio-economic infrastructure as notable achievements linked to Senator Nwobodo’s administration.
“The establishment of iconic projects and institutions remains a shining testimony to your passion for societal advancement and economic development,” Dr. Ani said.
The council chairman further described Senator Nwobodo as a father figure and source of pride to the people of Enugu State and the wider Igbo community, adding that his leadership style and dedication to public service had continued to inspire younger generations.
He also commended the humanitarian medical outreach organised to commemorate the elder statesman’s birthday at Amechi Awkunanaw.
Dr. Ani said the initiative reflected Senator Nwobodo’s longstanding commitment to humanity and the wellbeing of ordinary people.
“We are particularly delighted by the humanitarian medical outreach organised in commemoration of your birthday. Such a noble initiative reflects the spirit of compassion, care and service which your life represents,” he said.
“The free medical services provided to residents stand as a worthy celebration of a man whose legacy has always centred on the wellbeing and progress of humanity.”
He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the former governor, asking for sound health, wisdom, peace and many more years of impactful service to the nation and humanity.
Dr. Ani described Senator Nwobodo as “a true patriot, elder statesman and leader of leaders.”
