In a solemn display of respect and unity within the Medical Laboratory Science community, the National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, this morning paid a condolence visit to the National Headquarters of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) in Abuja to honour the late Registrar of the Council, Professor Tosan Erhabor.
Prof. Erhabor, a revered figure in the field of Medical Laboratory Science, passed away three days ago after a brief illness, sending shockwaves through the healthcare and scientific communities nationwide. His passing marks the end of an era defined by visionary leadership, steadfast dedication to professional standards, and transformative reforms in the Medical Laboratory Science sector.

Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, who was accompanied by Dr. Chukwu O. Chukwu, the Provost, Federal College of Medical Laboratory Technology (FCMLT) Jos, arrived at the Council’s headquarters early this morning and was received by Dr. Donald Ofili, Deputy Registrar (Accreditation) MLSCN. In a deeply emotional atmosphere, Dr. Ifeanyi signed the condolence register and shared heartfelt reflections on the life and legacy of the late Registrar.
He described Prof. Erhabor as “a shining beacon of excellence and integrity in Medical Laboratory Science” whose impact on the Council and the profession at large will remain indelible. He noted that Prof. Erhabor’s leadership brought significant transformation to the Council, particularly in the areas of regulatory reforms, professional development, capacity building, and the enforcement of ethical standards.

“He was more than just a Registrar,” Dr. Ifeanyi said. “He was a servant-leader, a reformer, and a man of deep conviction. His sudden departure is a monumental loss not only to the Council but to the entire health sector in Nigeria.”
The AMLSN President also emphasized that Prof. Erhabor’s vision for a more dynamic and responsive regulatory institution had already begun to bear fruit, citing improvements in licensing, accreditation processes, and inter-professional collaboration. He expressed deep sorrow that the late Registrar would not be present to witness the full realization of the reforms he so passionately championed.
Dr. Ofili, speaking on behalf of the MLSCN, acknowledged the tremendous support and partnership the Council enjoyed with the AMLSN under Prof. Erhabor’s stewardship. He commended the National President for the visit, noting that it was an empirical pointer to the unity and shared vision within the profession.
