The Leader of the Council,T

he Honourable Members of Udenu Legislative Council,

The Deputy Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area,
Ladies and gentlemen.

It is a singular honour and gratitude to God that I address this assemblage and very hallowed Legislative Council of Udenu Local Government Area. I count myself lucky in this dispensation that at this time in life and time I am addressing you as the Chairman of this very important Local Government Area. Consequential as the local government may be, I take it upon me to congratulate you, individually and collectively, on this very memorable day as you assume office properly as the major law makers of Udenu Local Government Area. So, I thank you Mr Leader for this opportunity offered to me to address the Council.

As you know, local government is the third tier of government and I would say the most fundamental of the administration because we are directly close to the populace, and we always interact with the majority of Nigerians at the grassroot. In that light, we must also understand that this is a very important road towards greater assignments in the country.

Nigeria needs leaders, leaders that can protect her from both external and internal aggression. Nigeria needs leaders that can prompt her to become one of the greatest nations in the world. And no one knows where the persons who are going to lead Nigeria comes from, except out of diligence and hardwork, we will sincerely appreciate that we can as well be part of the nation called Nigeria. Therefore, let us not take lightly this position we have today as councillors because we are grooming ourselves towards greatness in Nigerian, towards better leadership in Nigeria. And as of that, I want also, as we are progressing, to look at our governor His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah who has shown a shinning example of leadership in Enugu State. You are aware of the fact that his major concern is to get to the grassroots, to the people of Enugu State and fulfill his promises. On individual basis, you may have made promises to your people when you were going for elections. Please don’t forget these promises.

In the wave of politics and politicking, do not forget that you have an assignment to fulfill before your people. Therefore, the need to avoid over-politicising matters is important so that we can get focused and lead our people to a place where they can say, ‘you have done well, please come and do again’, because in Igboland they say that, ‘if you do well today, you will be invited for another task’. I now ask you to do this job with dedication, with commitment, with resilience, with sacrifice. Do it with the understanding that the next person you are helping is your brother or sister because in Udenu, we want to be the best local government area in Enugu State and we can only do it by commitment and dedication to duty.

Please be aware of the fact that there is a struggle to promote each local government area in Enugu State and even in Nigeria. Ours will be at the forefront of this promotion and it is only coming from your good policies, your good laws, your good rules and regulations that you may in time enact in the local government.

I also ask you to remember your oath of office so that in time you will be able to know that there are certain things that happen in government that you should not reveal outside. These I can no longer tell you because you have been councillors before and from the indication, you did well in your last tenure. You can only do better in this tenure. So, in a light of that, I want to congratulate you once again and thank you and invite you to work with me and the executive members of this local government so that we can promote the ideals for which Udenu people are known.

Thank you the Leader of the Council for this opportunity and I wish you the best of the legislations. Thank you sir.
