Once regarded as one of the most remote and inaccessible areas in Enugu State, Ezimo community has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. Nestled in the heart of Udenu Local Government Area, Ezimo’s fragile soil once made vehicular movement a nightmare, especially during the dry season when its loose, sharp sand rendered the untarred road nearly impassable.
However, every disappointment indeed comes with a blessing. That same sharp sand which made driving difficult became a valuable resource for building, benefitting not only Ezimo community but also neighbouring communities.
The turning point came during the administration of Gburugburu the former governor of Enugu State, whose foresight and commitment changed the destiny of our community. He constructed a modern road complete with drainage systems, effectively linking Ezimo with other communities. Despite opposition from some quaters who claimed the project was of “no benefit to the state, but the governor pressed on.
Today, Ezimo proudly boasts one of the best roads in Enugu State, a development that has opened the door to many  blessings.
The unveiling of one of the tallest waterfalls in the region, has turned the once sleepy town into a potential hub for tourism and investment. Modern buildings now line the streets, our sons and daughters return home with pride, and the community has become a symbol of progress and unity.
Our people are doing remarkably well in different sectors—from politics to law enforcement, customs, and business. Notably, the current Deputy Governor of Enugu State hails from Ezimo. We also have a Deputy Inspector General of Police, and many other illustrious sons and daughters excelling across Nigeria and beyond.
Our community even hosted a grand carnival, which drew dignitaries and tourists from all parts of the country, earning comparisons with the famous Calabar Carnival.
The Ezimo Waterfalls has since become a beehive of activities, attracting both local and foreign visitors.
Sadly, this story of transformation is now being overshadowed by fear and insecurity. In recent months, Ezimo has come under siege from armed men who have turned our peaceful town into a hunting ground for kidnappings and violence attacks, Several of our people have been abducted for ransom, a police officer was recently killed and his rifle taken away, few days ago, on the 13th day of October 2025, there was an attempted abduction of a Reverend Father.
These recurring incidents have instilled fear among residents and visitors alike, threatening to destroy the gains we have made as a community. Tourism, which was once thriving, has drastically declined. Many indigenes now find it risky to return home, even for short visits, while those at home sleep with their eyes widely open.
It is heartbreaking to watch a once peaceful, rapidly developing community descend into insecurity and fear. We therefore appeal to the Enugu State Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to urgently intervene and restore peace and safety in Ezimo.
Our people deserve protection; our progress must not be reversed by the actions of a few criminal elements.
The government’s timely action can make all the difference, reviving the hopes of a community that once stood as a shining example of transformation and resilience in Enugu States
