In a decisive and commendable action that showcases the commitment of Udenu LG Chairman, Aka Eze Aka’s administration to the protection of lives, health and dignity of the people, a suspected fake medical practitioner has been arrested and an illicit healthcare facility sealed following swift intervention and robust leadership from the Chairman.
As reported by Punch Newspaper of November 9, the Enugu State Ministry of Health, acting on credible intelligence and collaboration with security agencies, successfully arrested a “quack doctor” and sealed his illegal health facility operating without license in Obollo Etiti, Enugu State.
This victory for public safety did not happen by chance; it is the direct result of determined leadership, strong partnerships, and the mobilization of Community intelligence under Aka’s direction.
Last month, residents of Onumkpu Ogerenyi Community in Ada Obollo Etiti, within Udenu LGA, came forward with disturbing reports: a certain Mr. Kenneth Mamah operating an unlicensed clinic named St. Joseph Hospital, had allegedly carried out a medical procedure on one of the elders of the town, who tragically lost his life. Felt deeply by the Community, this incident was a wake-up call to action.

Aka’s response was immediate. Upon receiving the complaint, he pledged to the villagers: “If you keep trust in the system and stay calm, we will employ all legitimate means to ensure this menace is removed from our midst.” True to his word, he alerted the Local Government’s Supervisor for Health, Hon. Bartholomew Chijioke Odo, who undertook a covert assessment of the facility in question. The assessment confirmed the story, a clinic operating under the guise of legitimate health service, but run by a person without credentials and outside regulatory oversight.
With the evidence in hand and under Aka’s people-oriented leadership, which aligns with Gov. Peter Mbah’s zero tolerance for quackery in the health sector, the Local Government Health authority engaged with the State Ministry of Health’s anti-quack enforcement team. Within days the operation was mounted, the suspect apprehended, and the facility sealed. This decisive strike sends a clear message: Udenu won’t tolerate killers hiding behind white coats.
By removing such illegal operator from our Communities, further harm has been halted. No longer will unsuspecting residents walk into a clinic believing they are in safe hands, only to end up worse off—or worse still.
The handling of the case ensured that the regulatory process was activated, evidence gathered, agencies engaged, showing that Udenu values accountability, not shortcuts.
This strike sends a warning to would-be quacks: Udenu is watching, and the days of impunity are over.
As The Punch reminds us, such anti-quackery campaigns are becoming more frequent across States, with Enugu sealing unregistered hospitals and pharmacies in recent months. But it is in Udenu that this campaign was localised and community-driven.
This further strengthens Aka’s pledge during his campaign, to safeguard the health of every resident of Udenu LGA, whether in the most remote village or the heart of town.
“This” says the Chairman, “should serve as a firm warning: Anyone who dares operate unlicensed medical services, or parades fake credentials in Udenu LGA, will face the full wrath of the law. Our people will not be pawns of greed masquerading as healthcare.”
