The Udenu Local Government Legislative House was officially inaugurated today in a ceremony that marked a new chapter in the governance of the Area. The inauguration took place at about 09 AM local time at the Legislative Chamber of the Local Government, with the Clerk of the Legislative House, Hon. Fimber Odoh, presiding over the event, which saw key political leaders in attendance.
Among the dignitaries present were the Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Aka Eze Aka, and his Deputy, Hon. Mrs. Onyinye Odoh. The event also saw the attendance of various stakeholders, and members of the public including Onyekachi C. Ugwu, Jude Okwudili Ukwueze, Barr. Ikechukwu Eze, and the Local Government Treasurer — Asogwa T.M
The inauguration commenced with the administration of the oath of office to the newly elected Councilors by Chief Magistrate of Obollo Afor division — Chief Magistrate Ifeanyi Aro, at about 09:30AM local time. Mr. performed the oath-taking ceremony, formally inducting the 10 councilors who will represent the 10 political wards of Udenu. Following this, the roll call of the councilors was conducted, and the legislative proceedings began.
One of the key highlights of the day was the election of the principal officers of the House. The Legislative Body moved swiftly to elect its leadership, with the Speaker of the House — Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Odoh (who was the Leader of the immediate past Legislative Council) being re-elected shortly after the conclusion of the oath-taking ceremony.
In his address at the inauguration, Aka Eze Aka, the Executive Chairman of Udenu, expressed his readiness and commitment to working closely with the newly inaugurated Legislative Body. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms of Government in driving the progress and development of the Local Government Area. “The welfare and betterment of our people are our primary focus. I am prepared to work harmoniously with the Councilors for the advancement of Udenu,” he remarked.
The newly elected Speaker of the Legislative House, in his acceptance speech, assured the public that the House would work collaboratively with the Executive Chairman to ensure a smooth and productive tenure. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and transparency in the administration of local governance, stressing that the Legislative House would prioritize the needs of the people and act in the best interest of the community.
Following the successful inauguration and the smooth conduct of proceedings, the House adjourned its sitting to the 19th day of November, 2024, as the members begin their work on key legislative matters for the development of the local government.
