The Chairman of Udenu Local Government Council, Aka Eze Aka, has further reinforced the security architecture of the council area with the procurement and handover of additional security logistics (arms and ammunition) to the Udenu Neighbourhood Watch Security Outfit.
The brief handover ceremony took place at the Chairman’s office in Obollo Afor, where the security materials were officially presented to the Commander of the outfit, Mr. Peter Nwanosike Ugwu. Present at the occasion were the Senior Special Assistant to the Chairman on Security, Mr. Godwin C. Ogbuagu, and the Secretary to the Local Government Council, Mr. Chika Aroh.
All necessary documentation and administrative procedures were duly completed and endorsed. The Commander is expected to proceed to the Udenu Police Division for further documentation and registration in compliance with extant laws and regulations governing security operations.
The latest intervention further showcases Aka Eze Aka’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across Udenu Local Government Area. Since assuming office, security has remained one of the defining pillars of his administration, with strategic investments in intelligence gathering, logistics support, inter-agency collaboration, and community-based security initiatives.
Residents will recall that some parts of Ezimo and Amalla Wards experienced a wave of kidnapping incidents in 2025, particularly along the Ezimo-Iyi Nzu axis and border communities linked to forest routes leading to neighbouring Benue State.
Through sustained collaboration between the Local Government Council, security agencies, the Neighbourhood Watch, Forest Guards, and local vigilante groups, significant progress has been recorded in combating criminal activities in the area. Subsequent joint operations led to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the neutralisation of suspected kidnappers operating within the forests around Udenu, since January this year.
The Chairman’s proactive approach to security was further demonstrated last year when he convened a far-reaching Cross-Border Security Summit that brought together stakeholders from neighbouring Local Government Areas, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to develop coordinated responses to emerging security threats along the Enugu-Benue-Kogi corridor. The summit laid the foundation for the enhanced security synergy and peace currently being witnessed across the area.
Speaking during the handover, Aka Eze Aka reiterated that his administration would continue to provide all lawful support necessary to security agencies and local security outfits to ensure that criminals find no safe haven within Udenu.
“Our resolve is clear: Udenu must remain safe for our people to live, work, invest and prosper. We will continue to strengthen our security institutions and support all legitimate efforts aimed at protecting our communities,” the Chairman stated.
