Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu South Local Government Area have reaffirmed their support for Governor Peter Mbah, while calling for unity, inclusiveness and intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.
The resolution was reached at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday in Enugu, convened by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
The meeting, attended by party leaders, elected executives and other key actors, also served as a forum to congratulate newly elected officials at the ward, local government and state levels, including those who emerged from the party’s recent national convention in Abuja.
In his remarks, Onyia urged members to prioritise grassroots engagement and internal cohesion, stressing the need for what he described as a deliberate ward-based mobilisation strategy. He called on party faithful to strengthen their presence at the local level and ensure effective coordination ahead of forthcoming political activities.

He also mobilised support for the Awkunanaw Mega Rally scheduled for April 11, describing it as an opportunity for the party to demonstrate unity and consolidate support for the state government.
Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, emphasised the importance of inclusiveness within the party, urging leaders to accommodate longstanding members and avoid internal divisions. He noted that cohesion remained critical to sustaining recent gains within the APC in the state.
Nnamani also linked the party’s growing influence to what he described as an enabling political environment, citing recent developments within the party’s national structure as indicative of progress.
The state APC chairman, Martin Chukwunweike, charged newly elected executives to see their emergence as a call to service, urging them to uphold discipline, loyalty and effective grassroots engagement.
Similarly, the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Caleb Onyema Ani, commended the governor’s leadership, citing ongoing development efforts across the area. He urged party members to intensify mobilisation, noting that electoral success would depend on sustained commitment at all levels.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, Okey Ogbodo, also called for unity and adherence to party decisions, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in strengthening the party.
Chairman of the APC in Enugu South, Freedom Nnam, said the level of participation at the meeting reflected renewed commitment among stakeholders to reposition the party. He assured that efforts were ongoing to deepen grassroots structures across the 13 wards in the council.
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of reports by ward chairmen, who outlined progress made and identified challenges requiring attention. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening party structures and mobilising support ahead of upcoming elections.
In a communique, stakeholders expressed confidence in Governor Mbah’s leadership and pledged continued support, noting that the local government area would play a significant role in future electoral outcomes.

They also pledged to mobilise for the Awkunanaw Mega Rally, describing it as a critical platform for political engagement in the area.
Those in attendance included the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ken Chukwuegbo; General Manager, Enugu East Zonal Bus Terminal, Dr John Egbo; former local government chairmen; former members of the Enugu State House of Assembly; former commissioners; as well as ward executives and other party stakeholders.
