The people of Obollo and the Ekwenu Community in particular witnessed a historic moment today as their son, Chief Chinwe Eze, was officially presented the Udenu LG Chairman, as their Traditional Ruler (Igwe-Elect) after nearly two decades of leadership crisis.
Chief Eze, who last month received his Certificate of Observation/Return from the Enugu State Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, marked the end of over 17 years of interregnum characterized by tussles and divisions over the throne.
At precisely 11:50 AM local time, Chief Eze arrived at the Udenu Local Government Secretariat amidst camaraderie, accompanied by Ekwenu Town Union Executives, prominent elders, and Ndi Oziokos. In a jubilant atmosphere filled with songs and cheers from supporters, he presented his Certificate of Return to the Chairman of Udenu LGA, Hon. Aka Eze Aka.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Udenu LGA, Aka Eze Aka, congratulated the Igwe-elect on his historic achievement and urged him to prioritize unity in his reign.
“Your ascension to the throne is a great responsibility,” Aka said. “I admonish you to ensure that your leadership reunites all segments of your community, including those who supported you and those who did not. As a father figure, your focus should be on fostering peace, progress, and development in Ekwenu and beyond.”
In his response, Chief Chinwe Eze expressed profound gratitude to the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Peter Mbah, and the Honourable Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters and Rural Development, Deacon Okey Ogbodo. He commended their uprightness and fairness in overseeing the selection process that eventually led to his emergence as the rightful Igwe.
“This is a day of joy and restoration for the people of Ekwenu,” Chief Eze stated. “I assure you that I will serve with humility, fairness, and dedication to the betterment of our people. I deeply appreciate the support from the State Government and our Community leaders.”
The event was graced by notable dignitaries who flanked the Chairman during the occasion, including Onyekachi C. Ugwu, Rt. Hon. Chika Aroh (Secretary to the Local Government); Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Dr. Jude Ukwueze. Their presence added significance to the historic occasion.
Chief Chinwe Eze’s recognition as the Traditional Ruler of Ekwenu marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Community. After years of leadership disputes, his ascension is expected to symbolize hope for unity, peace, and sustainable development.
As he prepares to assume his duties formally, the people of Obollo and Ekwenu Community are optimistic that his reign will bring long-awaited stability and prosperity to the region.
