As part of ongoing consultations ahead of the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), High Chief Hon. Ikeje Asogwa (Ide Iheaka), on Tuesday held an interactive session with critical stakeholders of Udenu Local Government Area at the Chairman’s Lodge, Udenu Local Government Secretariat, Obollo Afor.
The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders from various sectors of the Local Government to deliberate with the candidate on issues relating to governance, constituency development, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and inclusive representation.
Addressing participants, Asogwa reiterated his resolve to provide effective representation for the people of Enugu North Senatorial District if elected. He pledged to prioritize robust legislative oversight, equitable distribution of developmental projects, and sustained engagement with constituents.
The APC candidate further assured stakeholders that he would leverage his wealth of experience in public service to attract meaningful development to the district. He cited his previous stewardship in public institutions, including the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) and the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation, where he said he initiated and implemented programmes that yielded measurable results.
According to him, the forthcoming election presents an opportunity to deepen development efforts across the six Local Government Areas that make up the Senatorial District through purposeful representation and strategic collaboration with relevant government agencies and stakeholders.
Stakeholders who spoke during the session commended the consultative approach adopted by the candidate and highlighted key areas requiring legislative attention.
The stakeholders also pledged their support for the APC candidate, expressing confidence in his capacity to effectively represent the Zone at the National Assembly.
Several participants equally applauded the Coordinator of the Ikeje Asogwa Campaign Organization in Udenu Local Government Area, Onyekachi C. Ugwu, for broadening participation in the consultation process. They described his efforts as a unifying factor that has helped bring together party leaders, stakeholders, and support groups in the Local Government ahead of the election.
The arrival
The gathering attracted a large turnout of political leaders, government officials, party executives, and community stakeholders. Among those present were the Chairman of Udenu Local Government Council, Aka Eze Aka; Member representing Udenu Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Izuchukwu Onah; Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Franklin Enyinnaya Ogbonna; APC Chairman in Udenu Local Government Area, Hon. Meletus Onah; Deputy Chairman of Udenu Local Government Council, Hon. Mrs Onyinye Odoh; and the APC Chairmanship Candidate for the forthcoming 2026 Udenu Local Government Election, Hon. Dr. Innocent Ezeoha (who was announced to have provided the heavy refreshments of food and drinks, which entertained everyone one at the occasion).
Earlier in the day, the Ikeje Asogwa Campaign Organization in Udenu, under the coordination of Mr. Ugwu, organized a similar consultative meeting with trade unions and interest groups at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Udenu Local Government Secretariat. Participants included representatives of traders’ associations, cashew dealers, timber merchants, transport operators under the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and other organized groups.
During the interaction, the groups presented their concerns and expectations, while the APC candidate outlined his vision for inclusive development and responsive representation.
Asogwa also met with members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Obollo Afor Branch, at the Old High Court Complex, Obollo Afor, where discussions centered on legislative advocacy, justice sector reforms, and national development. Members of the association assured the candidate of their support and cooperation.

The Campaign Organization also announced the timetable for the official flag-off and Local Government campaign rallies across the six Local Government Areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial District. Unveiling the schedule, the Udenu Campaign Coordinator, Mr. Onyekachi C. Ugwu, who served as anchor and rapporteur for the day’s engagements, disclosed that the campaign would commence on June 10 at the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Headquarters Arena by 11:00 a.m. The campaign train is scheduled to move to Udenu Local Government Headquarters Arena on June 11, before proceeding to Uzo-Uwani Local Government Headquarters on June 13. Thereafter, rallies will hold at the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Headquarters on June 15, Nsukka Local Government Headquarters on June 16, and conclude at the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Headquarters on June 17. All events are scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m., with party faithful, stakeholders, and supporters encouraged to participate actively in the campaign activities.
The Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election is being conducted in accordance with Nigeria’s electoral laws following the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who represented the district in the 10th National Assembly until his demise.
